Dentine Hypersensitivity: A cross-sectional study in Karachi

Aim: To assess the awareness of dentinal hypersensitivity among patients visiting dental outpatient department at KMDC hospital, Karachi. Methodology: The data for this cross-sectional study was collected from 361 OPD Karachi Medical and Dental College, After informed consent, a close ended type questionnaire filled were examined dentin hypersensitivity. obtained analysed using SPSS version 22. Result: Out total participants, 40% male 21.5% female significantly respond to (p-value 0.001). Dentin higher in males than females .40-50 age group more commonly affected cold stimuli most common aggravating initiating factor found. In addition it, Aggressive tooth brushing grinding are main etiological factors Practical implication: This may help clearly understand prevalence associated risk dentine develop effective appropriate treatment. Conclusion: It is necessary organize public programmes regarding adequate technique, good oral hygiene, avoidance abrasive as well erosive agents counselling dietary habits prevent Keywords: Personal awareness, hypersensitivity, hydrodynamic theory, aetiology, erosion
